I will help finalize the current efforts from the President and VP Finance Offices in collaborating with our partners, Student Care and UBC Vice-President Students Office, to ensure that the “Empower Me” program (which is currently available to memberships on the Health and Dental Care Plan) includes the 16,000 students who currently have no access to “Empower Me” within the next Academic Year.

As your next AMS President, I will use my extensive network, built from my work as AMS VP Finance and chair of the AMS/GSS Health & Dental Committee, to improve health coverage. Starting Sept. 2019, I will work to increase coverage for professional counselling and psychiatrist services by 66% per student (that is, an extra $200 per student) without increasing the Health and Dental plan fees.

I will work with UBC VPS office, GSS (Graduate Student Society) Counselling and sexual assault offices, including SASC and SVPRO, to ensure that the UBC Policy 131 timeline is strongly implemented to ensure that investigation processes are actually completed within two months, relieving both the complainant and respondent from psychological trauma experienced by the respective parties due to delays and slow investigation processes. In order to achieve faster sexual assault and harassment investigation processes, UBC needs to hire a respondent support staff team quickly, to ensure that there are people available to support both the complainants and respondents.

AMS SASC department will receive complete support from both the executive and society management to ensure that SASC builds better and more partnerships within the UBC Community, such as SVPRO, and outside UBC. I trust that our membership would support a SASC funding increment. The purpose of outside campus partners would be to give victims of sexual assault options to choose services they are comfortable with, thus not limiting them to SASC and SVPRO.
