GOAL 3: MORE STUDENTS’ VOICES INCLUDED IN SOCIETY GOVERNANCE AND LEADERSHIP.

Vote Here: amsvoting.as.it.ubc.ca.

I will develop a high level written consultation guide by the end of August 2019. The guide shall entail student groups that must be consulted (for example, constituencies, residence associations) and an examples of issues that society must consult groups on. I will use this document and criteria myself, as of starting September 2019 to consult with students during my term, and would include this document guide as one of the important items my successors would build on. This would ensure that society leaders and executives receive student feedback frequently and consistently on evolving student priorities, and that society decisions always reflect said priorities.

I will work closely with the affiliated colleges and constituencies that have seats on the AMS Council to ensure that all positions are filled. I will increase the council attendance from the current rate of 70% to at least 95%, ensuring that the council meetings end at the allocated time, creating consistency for council meeting duration.  Not only will this action increase council attendance by approximately over 25%, but will also ensure that council resolutions reflect the entire membership.

I will work closely with student groups and AMS council to propose a referendum next academic year that will amend society by-laws to increase the number of council(board) seats from 42-47 within the next academic year. The five new seats shall be occupied by representatives elected by and from the Indigenous Student Committee, Resource Groups, International Student Association, UBC Housing Residence Associations and Greek Life among others to ensure that voices from these groups are heard and have votes in the AMS Council.
